REDCAT GAMES
In the late 1990s, I composed the music for two titles in Davilex's RedCat series, including RedCat: Spookkasteel (1997).
The score was written to give the game its own musical identity, balancing suspense with a sense of playfulness: inviting young players to be thrilled rather than truly frightened.
Years later, I still occasionally come across comments from people who remember the music as surprisingly scary. I take that as a compliment.
The soundtrack excerpts presented here are taken from the original project archives.
Due to the limited memory available at the time, most pieces were designed to loop seamlessly after about a minute. For that reason, the excerpts fade out instead of reaching a conventional ending, just as they would have continued inside the game.

The next three tracks were among my first compositions for the RedCat series. Although I no longer remember which game they were written for, they capture a much lighter and more playful side of the series than Spookkasteel.
A small personal detail: the main melody wasn't entirely new. I had originally written it when I was fifteen for one of my first bands, in a song with the deliberately awful title 'Little Bart Doesn't Pray for Brown Beans'.
So, decades later, this happy tune unexpectedly found a second life in a children's game.
